The Community Safety and Well-Being (CSWB) plan will involve creating a vision and action plan for The Pas with support and input from community members. Its goal is to improve safety, sense of safety, and well-being for everyone in the community.
The success of the CSWB Plan depends on community involvement, which starts right away! W have launched a CSWB Survey to help us understand the current state of community safety, identify areas for improvement, and inform actions to improve CSWB in The Pas.
Community safety and well-being plans bring together community members and local organizations to address safety and well-being challenges. The Town of The Pas and our community partners recognize the importance of taking an in-depth approach to this process, by examining the impact of social, economic, family, and individual factors on community safety.
Community safety and well-being is defined as “the ideal state of a sustainable community where everyone is safe, has a sense of belonging, opportunities to participate, and where individuals and families are able to meet their needs for education, health care, food, housing, income, and social and cultural expression” (Ontario Ministry of the Solicitor General, 2017).
The CSWB planning approach involves an in-depth data collection approach which includes a reviewing of existing information about The Pas (e.g., Statistics Canada data, community studies, etc.), a CSWB survey, and focused conversations with a broad range of community groups and members. This information will then be combined to help us identify local priorities for the CSWB plan (key safety and well-being challenges) as well as a plan to address them. The action plan will include a balance of approaches that range from prevention (addressing broader challenges like education, poverty, and food insecurity) to response (e.g., responding to crimes or other challenges after they happen).
As residents of The Pas, your input in this process in greatly appreciated and important to ensure the CSWB Plan addresses the needs of everyone in the community.
Together, let’s make The Pas a safer place for all.
