Mayor Message

Thanks for visiting our website.  If you can take a few minutes to ‘click’ around, you’ll find a community that is big on pride and steeped in history.  As the Head of Council, or Mayor, I’m happy to tell you there is plenty going on in our Town.

CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Education

The Pas is home to University College of the North – a centre of post-secondary education for northern Manitoba. The campus is home to nearly 700 full-time students and offers college diploma and certificate programming in a number of faculties includes Health, Arts, Business and Science, Trades and Technology and in Education.

Health Care

The Pas has a large medical centre which is part of the vast Northern Regional Health Authority.

Paper Manufacturing

Canadian Kraft Paper Industries Limited, a privately-owned power-house in the nations pulp and paper industry operates its Kraft Paper division.  The community is located just a few kilometers south of the 54th parallel within the boreal forest.  Some of the healthiest trees in the world surround The Pas, allowing it to make what is arguably the finest kraft paper in the world.

When looking on a map one might conclude The Pas is a rather remote community – that is entirely incorrect.  The Pas is a service centre for several surrounding communities, providing all services for the 20,000 people that live outside of the Town.

Just north of The Pas is Clearwater Lake Provincial Park, home to one of the clearest lakes on the planet.  We have a number of full-sized lots that are fully serviced and available for sale.

In terms of recreation The Pas offers a wealth of facilities and opportunities.  I would encourage you to visit our Wellness Centre, The Pas Curling Club or the Roy H. Johnson Arena, all located within the Kelsey Recreation Complex.  Surrounding this facility you’ll find ball diamonds, tennis courts, a skatepark, a running track and soccer pitches

We are extremely proud of the solid partnerships with our neighbours on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation and the RM of Kelsey.  We are, as they say, as one.
